What would DC’s world look like if Kal-El’s ship landed 12 hours later? Instead of growing up with Ma and Pa Kent, he grew up in a communist farming collective behind the Iron Curtain in Ukraine? What if the USSR had a god backing its nuclear arsenal? The implications and shifts in characters all spin from this point, crafting a perfect alternate history timeline within the DC Universe.
The characters are unique and all have strong distint voices, the setting is interesting and dynamic. It’s the most literary science fiction I’ve read for a long time, and I’m comfortable giving it a good rating before finishing.
Written and drawn as an independent comic by Terry Moore, Echo is a cautionary tale about scientific ambition warped by human intentions and the consequences of huge technological leaps.
Imagine if Steven King had an editor who was strong enough to tell him to cut most of the crap, and leave out the meta-meet-the-author-as-a-character-in-the-book while writing The Dark Tower series.
